Google Nexus One Phone Has launched

Google Nexus One, the most-awaited mobile phone of the year, is ready for launch. Google has confirmed that it is working on its own phone, which will be called the Google Nexus One. In the last few days, the internet was bombarded with rumors of the Google phone being called the Google Nexus One.The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the name Nexus One, also said that Google would directly sell its phone to customers, by 2010. Google has now confirmed the news and said that the Google Nexus One will be launched by January 2010.

The Google Nexus One phone is said to bear an uncanny resemblance to the HTC Passion Android phone, that is in the pipeline. This has led to speculation that the Google Nexus One will be manufactured by HTC, and sold online by Google under its own brand name. Google has not confirmed that the phone will be manufactured by HTC.

Nexus One price:

Google will sell the phone unlocked, so customers will have to buy their mobile phone services separately. In contrast, most of the mobile phone makers work with a wireless carrier like AT&T or Verizon, before finalizing the design of the product. Google Nexus One will not be locked to wireless carrier. However, this also means that the price subsidies usually offered by wireless carriers will not available with the Google Nexus One. How much difference does the price subsidy make? Well, an iPhone in the US with a 2-year contract is available from AT&T for $200, while an iPhone from China Unicom in China costs the equivalent of $732. The absence of a carrier tie-up may push up the actual sale price of the Google Nexus One. Any price which compares well with iPhone is bound to have a lot of takers, especially since the Android Market is growing faster than Apples iPhone App Store. Itproportal has reported that Mario Queiroz, Vice President, Product Management at Google, has said in a post on Googles official mobile blog that the company has started a dogfooding (giving the phone to employees for testing) process for a phone. Querioz is said to have described, in the post, a concept of a mobile lab that is a device combining innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features.

Nexus One price and features:

Specifications of the Google Nexus One are thin on the ground but from what is known so far the phone will run the Android 2.1 operating system. We can safely expect to be loaded with the latest versions of all applications from Google. There are no indications whether it will be a GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone or a CDMA-EVDO phone. Nexus One may even be a world phone, boasting CDMA and GSM capabilities in one package. One can safely assume that the Nexus One will come with WiFi, 3G capability, wireless syncing, HSDPA/HSUPA and good multimedia features. Googles Navigation with turn-by-turn voice directions and satellite imagery are likely to come with the Nexus One.

Unconfirmed reports say that the Nexus One will have a 1-GHz snapdragon processor with 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. The phone will have a 4.3-inch capacitive display screen, virtual keyboard, scroll wheel, 5-megapixel autofocus camera with flash, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, A-and GPS. The Google Nexus One will take on the popular iPhone 3GS head on. It is believed that Google has directly supervised the minutest details of the design of Google Nexus One. Google has staked its prestige on the success of the Nexus One, which will be the companys first hardware product. Google has so far confined itself to the software space, focusing on search technology, applications and platforms. The launch of Nexus One puts the company in direct opposition to two big entrenched business segments; handset markets and wireless carriers. Handset makers like HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung, who have been building mobile phones with Android, will feel betrayed, since it is they who popularized Android which was a fledgling new mobile operating system just a year back. Wireless carriers in US and Europe, who have a stranglehold on the features and specifications of all mobile phones running on their networks, will not have similar control over the Google Nexus One. It will be interesting to see how AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint view the entry of Nexus One into their networks. A couple of months back, Apple blocked Google Voice from its online App Store, sparking speculation that its hand was forced by AT&T, which feared cannibalization of its voice traffic.

President Obama Rips White House Party Crashers

WASHINGTON - President Obama was seriously irked about the celebrity-hound couple who crashed the White House last month, and promises the "screwup" won't happen again.

"What I know is what everybody knows," Obama said in a "60 Minutes" interview aired Sunday night. "These people should not have gotten through the gate."

Tareq and Michaele Salahi breached security and strolled into a Nov. 24 state dinner for the Indian prime minister.

The Secret Service took the rap and the White House circled the wagons around social secretary Desiree Rogers, a longtime member of the Obamas' Chicago circle of friends.

Traditionally, a member of the social office is stationed at all security checkpoints to assist the Secret Service, but that didn't happen at the first state dinner of the Obama administration.

"I was unhappy with everybody who was involved in the process," Obama said. "It was a screwup."

Asked if he was angry when he found out about the security gaffe, Obama said, "Yes. That's why it won't happen again."

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi Struck In the Face

A mentally ill man broke Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's nose and knocked two of his teeth out with a punch to the face at a rowdy rally in Milan Sunday.

Doctors said they will keep him in the hospital under observation for 24 hours. They said he was not badly injured.

It was not clear if the prime minister, who has confessed to having a face lift, will need more plastic surgery.

Italian TV showed the dazed premier - his face cut and his mouth a mass of blood - falling to the ground and then being hustled into a car.

The attacker, 42-year-old Massimo Tartaglia, a graphic designer with a history of mental problems, was quickly bundled away by police.

Berlusconi was gladhanding the crowd after delivering a tirade against the left at an evening rally in front of Milan's Duomo when he was hit.

Witness Doriano Riparbelli told Italian media that Tartaglia was holding a souvenir replica of the famously spikey cathedral and rammed it into Berlusconi's face.

Defense minister Ignazio La Russa, who also saw it happen, told the Corriere della Sera newspaper that the crowd was ready to lynch the attacker.

"Only scraps would have remained," he said.

Video of the aftermath showed a chaotic scene as crowds surged around the president, who is a hearty 73.

An aide was crawling on the roof of his limo as he was stuffed inside the car by security men.

At one point Berlusconi tried to climb out and hoist himself onto the car to show he was all right, but fell back, looking confused.

Distraught fans - some of whom appeared to believe he'd been shot - looked on in horror.

The Italian flair for drama quickly asserted itself.

"Democracy is at risk in this country," said Senate president Renato Schifani.

Far-right politician Umberto Bossi declared the punch "an act of terrorism."

Berlusconi spokesman Paolo Buonaiuti told CNN the growing political attacks on his boss led to the physical attack.

"There has been such a buildup of hatred toward the premier, and this is not good," Buonaiuti said. "This campaign of hatred has been building quite rapidly recently, and I am not surprised that what happened tonight took place."

Corriere della Sera said a handful of protesters heckled Berlusconi, shouting slogans that prompted him to tell the crowd, "They paint me as a monster, but I don't think I am one - firstly because I am good-looking and secondly because I'm a good guy."

Tartaglia was not among the protesters.

Berlusconi faces a number of bribery and corruption trials and has been caught up in a series of tawdry sex scandals.
His wife, actress Veronica Lario, announced in May she would seek a divorce amid allegations he was consorting with teenagers and prostitutes.

The Mail on Sunday in London reported that he spent Friday's European Union summit meeting doodling lady's underwear and then passing his sketches around to shocked world leaders.

The paper said Berlusconi drew a series of female undergarments through the ages - from Victorian bloomers to 21st Century thongs - as the leaders discussed climate change in Brussels.

Among those present: Britain's Gordon Brown, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen.

Berlusconi -- a billionaire who controls many Italian institutions, including the football team AC Milan and major TV networks -- is the longest-serving Prime Minister of Italy, a position he has held three times since 1994.
